The National Joint Council (NJC) met yesterday (7 June) to discuss, among other issues, our outstanding pay claim. ATHERSTONE-ON-STOUR FATAL FIRE 2007: LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN COURT CASE
I am sure that members will have been following events relating to the fatal fire at Atherstone-on-Stour which took place in November 2007. At that tragic incident four FBU members (Brothers Ian Reid, John Averis, Ashley Stephens and Darren Yates-Badley) were killed in the worst Fire Service fatal incident in decades.
Following debate at recent meetings, the TUC has now reached agreement for a mass demonstration in London under the banner of “A future that works”. It will take place on October 20th this year.
While all members will be focused on the urgent issue of our campaign to defend pensions it is also essential that we continue to pursue a resolution to the issue of pay. The link between the attacks on pensions and the employers’ pay freeze was highlighted during our Annual Conference in May and has been discussed at many members’ meetings since then.
The Fleur Lombard Bursary was set up in memory of a couragous Bristol firefighter who lost her life protecting her community. The bursary gives Firefighters a once in a lifetime opportunity to broaden your horizons & understanding of Fire Service issues
